What is cost of goods sold in Merchant Center?
WeAdU · Updated 5 October 2026
The cost of goods sold attribute `[cost_of_goods_sold]` supplies, in Merchant Center, gross profit reporting when conversions carry the cart. It is not the selling price.
What does it not name?
Price is what the customer pays. Sale price is not this attribute either. A custom label sorts on the merchant's grid. The feed label chooses the source. The break-even ROAS entry, already live, says when gross margin covers Google Ads spend. This page does not redo that sum.

What does the help calculate with this value?
Help read on 5 October 2026 makes it required for automated discounts and dynamic promotions. For other products it stays optional. The help page is titled "Cost of goods (cogs)".
In this help, gross profit is the difference between revenue and this cost. The figure is for the report, and the help treats it as an estimate. It does not have to be exact: a rough figure is enough, and an average if the cost moves for one product. To use the report, each conversion has to carry the item detail. The help names the global site tag. The break-even ROAS entry remains WeAdU's reading of margin. It is not the same sum.
Which separator, and which currency?
Use a currency code from the ISO 4217 standard the help names. The decimal separator is a dot, not a comma. Use the same currency as the price sent in conversion reports, so an exchange rate does not open a gap.
Where is the catalogue already described?
Homepage, Automate step, read on 5 October 2026: "Daily product classification, custom label updates, and feed maintenance." The article on Performance Max structure, linked below, is the catalogue source.
What does the WeAdU audit cover?
On the homepage, read on 5 October 2026: "The free audit covers Google Ads only." No Google Ads account figure here.
