What is the additional image link in Merchant Center?
WeAdU · Updated 5 October 2026
In Merchant Center, the additional image link attribute `[additional_image_link]` holds the product images other than the main photo. The landing page and the main photo have their own attributes.
What does it not name?
The image link, already defined, points at the main photo. This attribute adds the other views. For a shot of the product in use, the help has a separate attribute, the lifestyle image link `[lifestyle_image_link]`. An additional image can also show use, a detail, or the packaging, without taking that attribute's place. The link attribute opens the landing page. Neither a custom label nor the feed label is an image address.

What does the help require?
According to the help page read on 15 October 2026, the attribute is optional but recommended for each product. The address starts with http or https. The file extension matches the format, and the accepted formats are the same as for the image link: JPEG, WebP, PNG, GIF, BMP, or TIFF. The additional image has to meet the same requirements as the main photo. The help caps how many additional images one product can carry, but that cap is not restated here.
An image made with generative AI keeps its IPTC metadata, including the digital source type. The help names TrainedAlgorithmicMedia, CompositeSynthetic, and AlgorithmicMedia. Do not strip those tags. For a bundle, the main photo can show the full set and an additional image a single piece: the bundle attribute is `[is_bundle]`. For a multipack, an additional image can show the whole pack: the multipack attribute is `[multipack]`.
Where do a variant's views go?
When the file holds several brands, each variant keeps the photos of its colour and finish. The other angles go here, not in a second image link: the help keeps a single address for the main photo. This entry explains the attribute but stops short of a fix. For the main photo, see the image link entry, linked below.
Where is the catalogue already described?
Homepage, Automate step, read on 5 October 2026: "Daily product classification, custom label updates, and feed maintenance." The article on Performance Max structure, linked below, is the catalogue source.
What does the WeAdU audit cover?
On the homepage, read on 5 October 2026: "The free audit covers Google Ads only." No Google Ads account figure here.
